Short Tie History

Tie Blog - History

Silk neckties are a common sight these days.  We see them on business men, as part of school uniforms, and in weddings.  Has the necktie always been popular?  Where did it come from?
Ancestors to the modern necktie are found clear back in the time of China's first emperor, in ancient Rome, and at the time of the pharaohs of Egypt.  Each of these cultures wore a piece of cloth around their necks, oftentimes as a sign of prestige and rank.  The necktie didn't become popular, though, till the 17th century when King Louis XIV, the king of France, noticed the colorful pieces of cloth sported around the necks of Croatian soldiers, and the style quickly became popular.  It wasn't long before a neckcloth became a necessary article of a man's wardrobe, especially in England.  This trend continued to blossom until it became the global phenomenon we know today.
Through the years, neckties have become symbols of social status and individuality.  Today, silk neckties are used to show mood and personality, and are a common part of mens classy, sophisticated, and professional looks all over the world.  Neckties have become a timeless part of our history.
